I don't think there was a single person out there who wasn't smiling after his runs. It was great.

Oh I love it. From experience though, some of the more "traditional" autox folks aren't big fans of drifting. I had a fairly sideways "fun run" after an event once that was debated on message boards the next day as to whether it was "safe".

Mostly because they're the ones putting together the races and getting the insurance to cover it etc. Any intentional drifting has been strictly forbidden at my local autocross club after about a dozens mad tyte JDM yo drifters showed up after drinking too much Monster Energy and watching Initial D the night before.
Many cones were destroyed and the course had to be called about 15 times before they were all kicked out. It was an absolute disaster. While I appreciate people wanting to practice their drifting skilllz in a safer environment, an autocross course isn't really the right venue either.

The problem would be that everyone fell a sleep waiting for him to finish ;)

I've organized several autocrosses, helped with set up, insurance, etc. And there is a line between allowing some Oppo on the course and a full on drift event, I agree.
Most people who have the anti-drift stereotype (ala "mad tyte", "yo", "initial D") will be against any level of sideways driving I'm sure.

It's usually not being sideways. It's usually the gross display of power. As soon as it can be characterized as a power contest, insurance gets very unhappy. If you just induced a slide with throttle lift and picked it back up, almost no one would say anything. As soon as you start going deliberately slow drifting with tires burning, everyone gets nervous that both the venue will be lost as well as insurance.
In the pic above it looks like no one would care because it was actually at a track, not a rented/borrowed lot.

Pretty much what Casper said. A bit of oppo or a bit of throttle steering is allowed if it isn't flagrant. It's quite obvious when somebody enters the first corner doing everything they can to get the rear wheels to kick out.
It's hardly ever a judgement call, as it is really obvious when somebody wants to hone their dorifto skills.

When I lived in SF there was a Japanese fellow named Hiro who drifted his Supra at the AXs. This was in the late 90s, before anybody in the US knew that drifting was a "thing." The organizers kept threatening to ban him, but he was so good that he rarely took out cones, so their "safety" concerns were dismissed. The fast guys in the group didn't care since he wasn't getting championship points and he was eventually allowed to run without too much trouble.
